WHERE DO YOU BELONG?

Have YOU been wondering about where, if and how YOU fit in to this crazy ol' world... Well, so have we! As a result:

We created a blog about it.

SUB CLUB is about expressing your point of view about subcultures. What is it that creates them, shapes them, labels them and what are they? Well, that's what we hope to encapsulate with personal opinion and self critical reflection. So read on and please; tell us where you "fit" in.

Tribes of sydney is the follow up article to the original "Tribes of the City", written in the Sydney Morning Herald in 1998. The original artiical identified the subcultures that had developed and become previlent amongst Sydney youths. 10 years on the revised artical discusses the changes within the subcultural groups and the influences that have shaped them.

The tribes, from left: The Emo, The SuperGeek, The Jock Dolly, The Gangsta, The Punk Lite, The Glamazon, The Hipster, and The Techno Boho

The thing I find interesting is how technological advances have allowed underground groups to become mainstream and isolated communities of like-minded people have been able to expand their reach. Developments of social networks and interactive websites and applications has allowed for members of one particular subculture to become influenced with many others'. The amalgamation of multiple subculture's is now more acceptable than ever and has shaped a new subculture the "Slashie".
